Black Tie
The appropriate attire for a black tie event is a dinner suit.  The term “black tie” does not mean that you have to wear a black tie, however a shirt and tie is expected.  A black bowtie is standard although coloured accessories to compliment your dates outfit can bring individuality to the standard dinner suit.

White Tie
The appropriate attire for a “white tie” event is black evening tails, white shirt, bowtie, and vest.  This is a very formal event and nothing else is appropriate.

Wedding
When choosing the attire for you and your wedding party the first thing that will effect your choices is how formal your wedding will be.  A morning suit is a very formal and traditional outfit, this can be worn with the traditional stripe or plain black trouser.  A classic dinner suit with one or two buttons and satin lapels is also a traditional look.  A modern dinner suit with four buttons and satin lapels adds a modern edge to your attire. Matching accessories with colour themes will tie your wedding party together, feel free to mix and match the classic and modern contemporary looks, remember its your big day you need to be comfortable with what you are wearing.

Attending a Wedding
If the wedding invitation does not state a dress code then a dark suit with a shirt and tie is appropriate.

School Formal
If the school has not stated a theme or dress code, a black dinner suit with a white shirt and tie is appropriate. A vest is optional, adding colour and matching the colour of vest and tie is a good way to compliment your dates outfit.

Funeral
A dark suit is the appropriate attire for a funeral. Keep your outfit simple with either a black or white shirt and a dark tie

This is meant as a guide if in doubt check with the organizer of the event, and you can always mix and match to get the look that suits you. Good luck!
